Reparan turbina de EBY Argentina.- Sin inconvenientes entró nuevamente en operación desde el miércoles 18 de agosto la turbina número 3 de la central hidroeléctrica de Yacyretá, según reporte del Departamento Técnico de la Entidad Binacional. El informe oficial señala que durante el proceso de reparación y mantenimiento de las unidades 3 y 20, no se dejaron de cumplir con los compromisos contraídos por la Entidad Binacional Yacyretá en el suministro de energía a Paraguay y Argentina. Akosombo hydro-electric damAddis Ababa, Ethiopia: Continued economic developments across the continent have necessitated the need to expedite the implementation of a massive hydro power project by the African Union (AU).

The project dubbed ‘Hydropower 2020’ is an initiative of the African Union that seeks to increase power generation capacity for Africa and enhance socio-economic development across the continent.

Studies have shown that Africa has enormous potential for hydropower development because of its adequate water resources both perennial and non-perennial which needs to be harnessed for socio-economic development.

Free Flow Power assessment aims to ease fears about underwater work

Free Flow turbineOne of the companies planning to generate electricity from the Mississippi River's natural current has proposed a wide-ranging study to answer concerns that its project could interfere with other river users, including barge operators, fishermen and even sand- and gravel-mining firms.

In plans filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Massachusetts-based Free Flow Power said it will assess the potential impacts of installing hundreds of underwater turbines in the Mississippi between St. Louis and the Gulf of Mexico, including a site in the Memphis area.

The hydropower industry in the United States could add 60 GW of renewable energy to the country’s electricity grid by 2025, while creating 700,000 new jobs.

Workers of the Bratsk hydroelectric power plant(USA).- The National Hydropower Association (NHA) commissioned Navigant Consulting to conduct a study on the hydroelectricity industry’s potential for job creation and capacity growth. The results rely on information from industry experts, government officials and existing data, and suggest that the US industry could increase its current installed capacity of 100 GW by adding 60 GW of capacity through new technologies, efficiency improvements and research and development.

Investments worth 1.9 bln euros for management of hydro energy potential

Hydorelectric power plant Barajul.Lenin(Romania): Hidroelectrica plans to attain a hydro-energy potential of 2.28 TWh/year by 2025, of which 1.011 TWh/year over 2009-2012, supposing an overall investment of almost 1.88 billion euros in new arrangements, according to Hidroelectrica Co. data presented on Monday, on the occasion of a roundtable on the hydro-energy potential.

The company plans to manage 20 new river segments, with a potential of 1.246 TWh/year, for which preliminary studies were conducted. Works are under way for 2009-2012 phase.
