Reparan turbina de EBY Argentina.- Sin inconvenientes entró nuevamente en operación desde el miércoles 18 de agosto la turbina número 3 de la central hidroeléctrica de Yacyretá, según reporte del Departamento Técnico de la Entidad Binacional. El informe oficial señala que durante el proceso de reparación y mantenimiento de las unidades 3 y 20, no se dejaron de cumplir con los compromisos contraídos por la Entidad Binacional Yacyretá en el suministro de energía a Paraguay y Argentina. The RITE pilot project deployed hydrokinetic turbines in the East River.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Monday issued its first pilot project license to Verdant Power’s 1,050-kW Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy (RITE) project.

The 10-year pilot license is the first issued since FERC developed the pilot license process in 2008 to test new hydrokinetic technologies, to determine appropriate sites for these technologies, and to confirm the technologies’ environmental effects “without compromising FERC’s oversight,” FERC said in a statement.

Located in the State of Mato Grosso, the APM Manso Dam impounds the Manso River and has a capacity of 5,600,000,000 m3 and a surface area of 357 km2.

Site design and location can minimize carbon dioxide, methane emissions.

An international team of scientists has amassed the largest data set to date on greenhouse gas emissions from hydroelectric reservoirs. Their analysis, published today in the online version of Nature Geoscience, posits that these human-made systems emit a relatively small amount of both carbon dioxide and methane.

Prior studies based on more limited data cautioned that the sum of reservoirs of all types could be a significant and large source of both carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere.

Demonstration Against Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power StationThe long-running saga over the mammoth 11GW Belo Monte dam project in Brazil has taken another turn, with a higher court overturning a previous ruling that blocked the beginning of construction on the grounds that the project did not meet environmental standards. The project, should it proceed, would be the third largest hydroelectric dam in the world and its construction would require the resettlement of thousands of indigenous people.

Tarbela Power PlantMott MacDonald, in a joint venture with Coyne et Bellier of France, will be design engineers for the 4th extension project at Tarbela Dam adding 960 MW of hydropower to the Pakistani power system.

The contract was awarded by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) of Pakistan.

The hydropower dam extension project, with finance arranged by the World Bank, will extend the power generation facilities at Tarbela Dam which is situated on the Indus River, 100 km northwest of Islamabad. The project is due for completion around 2016 and has an estimated capital value of approximately US$500 million.

Nam Lik hydropower artist compositionThe Nam Lik 1-2 hydropower plant, located in the central province of Vientiane has commenced commercial operation as the demand for electricity in Laos continues to rise.

China International Water Electric Corporation (CWE) and Electricite du Laos (EDL) held an official opening ceremony for the US$150 million facility in Naxeng village of Feuang district, Vientiane province, some 150km from the capital.
